Olympian in Training...

Apparently, Silas is training for the Olympics.  He was practicing his long jump the other day.  And he is serious about his training.  I can tell...because he did this over and over and over and....

Neighbourhood Friends

The kids all made friends at the park the other day.  Caleb found a boy his age and they rode their bikes on the path and spun around on the merry-go-round.  Sophie found a little girl to play.  They found a fuzzy caterpillar and spent their time making a home for it.

And Silas found this little guy to hang out with.

Silas would try to chase him.

And he would fly away.

But he kept coming back.

It was wonderful....it kept Silas occupied for hours.  Okay, more like 15 minutes.  But for a toddler?  That is hours.

Sophie Style

Sophie has a style that is all her own. Here is what she wore this morning-

And underneath her 'coat'?  Here is her complete outfit. She was so proud of it. She kept telling me, "I picked warm clothes, Mama!  That's good, right?"  Fantastic, Sophie....it's just fantastic.

Just in case anyone is curious, yes, we did go out with her dressed like that.  It was an upside down kind of a day at the park.

And we have a trip to Costco planned for later.

*those* days

I'm having one of those days.  Where nothing is going quite right.  The kids can't seem to get along for more than 3 minutes at a time.  No matter what I try, I am unable to distract Silas from Sophie's tower.  Because really, what is better than a tower, just waiting to be knocked over, when you're 2?  Well, maybe a train.  A real train. Unfortunately, we don't have one of those in our backyard...

So instead, I googled free printable scavenger hunt cards, made a list (because our printer isn't working), and sent the big 2 off while I nursed Si to sleep.

45 minutes later-success.  Happy big kids, excited to show off their loot,

a sleeping toddler,

and a hot cup of coffee.  It doesn't get much better than that.

Festivals, food and fun!

We have been enjoying the summer things around our city!  We went to the Heritage festival yesterday and the kids all really enjoyed themselves.  And really, what's not to enjoy?  Food, music and dancing.  Caleb loved watching the knights but his favourite part was something I never thought I would ever hear him say-tasting all of the food and finding out which country it came from.  He has come a long way from the 3-year-old who ate cheerios for supper every single night.

I spent most of the time trying to explain to Sophie why she couldn't just climb up onto the stages.  I explained that they were for the performers and that she could dance in front of the stage while she was watching them.  So she did.

Silas danced too.

But then, when we were watching the dancers from the Congo, someone lifted Sophie up onto the stage so she could dance with the dancers.  A little hesitant at first, it only took her a minute before she was shaking her hips.  She didn't love dance when she was in it and I think we've figured out why-ballet is not her thing.  She needs to take African dance!

Of course, whatever Sophie gets to do, Silas wants to do to.  So after 5 minutes of this-

We let him up too.

And what was Silas' favourite part?  Not the dancing.  Or the food.  It was the bus.

Because is there anything better than taking the bus when you're 2?
