Night Time Comfort

Who needs a teddy bear or security blanket when you have a camera?  It's not exactly cuddly but he's sleeping!  And that is the most important thing.

Waiting

Silas is waiting for his two favourite people in the whole world-Caleb and Sophie.  His older siblings who, in his eyes, know everything.

What do you mean they're not home yet???
I've been waiting for hours!

Sophie

Sophie has always been her own person.  She's spirited, feisty and creative.  And she always knows what she wants.  When she was younger, she rarely cared about what others thought.  She seemed to know when she needed to compromise with her friends so they could usually play nicely together but she also knew when it was important that she stay true to herself.  She wore what she wanted and liked what she liked, regardless of what others thought.  This year, after she started kindergarten, I noticed that slowly starting to change.  She started asking if I thought her friends would like her outfit.  Or if her friends would like her book.  Or if her friends still watched the Backyardigans.  And this scared me.  I've always loved that Sophie was so confident.   I didn't want this to change as she tried to get girls to like her who weren't particularly nice to her.  My super confident little girl would cry because the other girls wouldn't play with her.  She didn't want to take certain things in her lunch box because someone wouldn't sit beside her.  The influence of peers was strong.

But then I picked the kids up from daycare this week and there, in the midst of a class of kids who made power ranger masks, was Sophie.  She was the only one not wearing a mask.  She had a big paper bow in her hair and a cat tail that she had glued together.  She was dancing in the middle of the room, unaware of everyone else, very proud of her handmade costume.  And right then I knew Sophie would be okay.  The little girl who I was scared was getting lost in the Kindergarten shuffle was as confident as ever.  Her spirit was still there.  It was just hidden for a little bit.

A great big thank you...

This is the last post about Silas' birthday....I think.  This is really more of a thank you post.  I asked my cousin to make Silas' cake for him.  Even though I think she may have been planning on taking a bit of a baking break, she very willingly said that she would bake something special for him.  I'm so happy that she did-she did a fabulous job.

Like every other 2-year-old boy that is out there, Silas LOVES trains.  He also likes Sesame Street.  And dogs.  Cars and trucks.  But he LOVES trains.  And Erin made him the coolest 3-D train cake.

I absolutely love that she even thought to have Silas driving.

So thank you so much Erin.  You couldn't have made a better cake for Silas.  We all loved it and it is much appreciated ♥

Happy Birthday, Silas!

Wow!  I can't believe that in 2 short years, (it really did seem to fly by), Silas went from this tiny, 4 pounder...

...to this

He's still pretty tiny.  I always forget how small he is until I see him next to other 2-year-olds who are a foot bigger than him.  Or beside just turned 1-year-olds who are bigger than him.  But he is spirited.  And determined.  And he always knows what he wants.  Sophie and Caleb wrapped his presents for him and were so excited to give them to him.  Silas, being the third child, definitely knows what presents are.  And he knows how to open them.

He was pretty excited about his books.  And was not happy when Sophie tried to look at one of them.

And he loved his blocks.

Aren't they pretty??  I LOVE them too.  And was so excited to buy them.  I thought about them for a week before I put the order through but I am so happy that I did.  Silas was very frustrated that they came wrapped in plastic.

I tried to get a picture of him smiling but apparently, playing with blocks is serious business.  He kept looking at me like I was crazy when I tried to get him to smile.

We were going to have cinnamon buns with a candle in the middle, since I didn't bake a cake.  As it turned out, it didn't matter.  Silas fell asleep before we had a chance to light the candle because now that he's 2, he thinks he's too old to nap.  On a positive note, he was asleep MUCH earlier than last night.

Happy Birthday, baby boy!  I am loving watching you grow and become the determined, energetic, and spunky toddler that you are.  I hope you love being 2!
